As a major university directly under theChinese Ministry of Education, Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) is notonly the oldest of its kind in the country, offering more foreign languageprograms than any other school to students of all levels, but also the first toteach Chinese as a foreign language to scholars from other parts of the world.  BFSU is regarded as a pacesetter in teachingand research of Chinese as a foreign language and comparative literature.

The School of Chinese Language andLiterature (SCLL) consists of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature,offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs for Chinese students; theDepartment of Chinese as a Foreign Language, providing undergraduate programs tointernational students; and the Chinese Language Training Center, specializedin non-degree education.

The School has nearly seventy teacherswith rich professional experience and trains approximately 1,700 students, with1,200 from overseas. SCLL offers two BA programs: Chinese Language andLiterature and Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. In addition to a PhDprogram of Comparative Literature and Cross-Cultural Studies, the School also offersfive MA programs: Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Teaching Chinese as aForeign Language, Chinese Language Studies, Comparative Literature and WorldLiteraturesandChinese Ancient Literature. All programs are open to international students.

We have two research centers theInformation Center of International Chinese Teaching and the Research Center ofComparative Literature and Culture which publishes academic journals such as International Chinese Language Education andJournal of Humanities.

Aiming to produce quality inter-disciplinaryand international personnel with high proficiency in the Chinese language andculture, the School provides a multi-cultural learning environment, where studentsfrom all over the world can communicate and learn from each other.
